With FC 25 fast approaching and new information being released every week, the recent announcement of player roles on FC 25 really intrigued me!
With EA trying to strike the balance of realism and fun in the game, by combatting players putting all numbers behind the ball, player roles looks to have that balance.
Player Roles Explained
First of all, you need to understand how player roles work. They override the previous 'player instructions' we've seen throughout previous titles.
These roles are defined with specific responsibilities and behaviors that are shown on the pitch, with players falling into one of four categories within that role. 'Out of position, role, role+ and role++'. The more established the player is in that role, the better they will perform.
Player Roles To Look Out For On EA FC 25
I've picked out some roles I'm very much looking forward to trying come 20th September when the game launches worldwide. They are...
Ball Winning Midfielder (BWM):
Role Overview: The BWM is crucial for disrupting the opposition's play. Positioned typically in the central midfield, this player excels in tackles, interceptions, and regaining possession.
Impact on Gameplay: Incorporating a BWM into your squad ensures that you have a player focused on defensive duties, which can be pivotal in controlling the midfield and preventing counter-attacks.
Box-to-Box Midfielder (BBM):
Role Overview: A BBM is a versatile player capable of contributing both defensively and offensively. This role involves covering large areas of the pitch, supporting attacks, and tracking back to defend.
Impact on Gameplay: Utilizing a BBM in your team can create a dynamic midfield presence, aiding in seamless transitions between defence and attack, and maintaining team balance.
Deep Lying Playmaker (DLP):
Role Overview: The DLP is positioned deep in the midfield, orchestrating the play from a withdrawn position. This player is essential for distributing the ball and initiating attacks with precise long passes.
Impact on Gameplay: Having a DLP allows for better ball retention and control, providing a stable base for building attacks and maintaining possession under pressure.
Advanced Playmaker (AP):
Role Overview: Unlike the DLP, the AP operates closer to the attacking third, creating goal-scoring opportunities with their vision and passing ability.
Impact on Gameplay: An AP can unlock tight defences with their creativity, making them indispensable for breaking down opponents and setting up strikers.
Target Man (TM):
Role Overview: The TM is a forward who excels in holding up the ball, using their physicality to shield possession, and bringing teammates into play.
Impact on Gameplay: Deploying a TM can be particularly effective in direct or counter-attacking styles, as they can control long balls and create space for onrushing attackers.
Poacher:
Role Overview: The Poacher is a predatory striker focused on goal-scoring, often positioned on the last line of defence to capitalize on any scoring chances.
Impact on Gameplay: This role ensures you have a forward who is always ready to exploit defensive lapses and convert half-chances into goals.
Adapting Your Playstyle To Get More Wins
One thing to take note when you get your hands on FC 25, to get more wins on the pitch you should be picking players based off the role you want them to play. If you want a target man, pick someone who excels in that role rather than trying to get a player to play there who isn't capable.
You wouldn't stick Vini Jr upfront as a target man would you?!
We are only 51 days away from the launch of the new game and I am very excited to get my hands on. What player role are you most excited for?!
